One nice color is not yet a brand

  • One job per color

The main color is what people remember, supporting colors split areas and carry backgrounds, and the accent is used sparingly for buttons, prices and anything that needs attention. When four colors fight for space, none of them is remembered.

  • Suit your element, but not only that

Many Vietnamese business owners want colors that suit their element. Each element matches several colors, so you can still pick one among them that fits the industry, reads well and prints cleanly.

  • Follow the industry or stand apart

Many industries have familiar colors: clinics lean blue, restaurants lean red and orange. Following them tells people at once what you sell; standing apart makes you easier to spot. Either works, as long as it is a deliberate choice.

Brand colors by industry

Each industry below comes with color and type sets prepared by Sinh Vũ in the tool. An industry’s familiar colors are estimated from studio experience: a reference, not a rule.

Food and beverage

Restaurants and packaged food often use red, orange and yellow, because these colors suggest hot, tasty food and make viewers feel hungry. Healthy drinks, tea and nut milks tend to choose green. Coffee almost always includes brown.

Preschools and centers for young children often choose bright colors such as orange, yellow and green, while international schools, universities and exam-prep centers usually choose deep blue or burgundy to convey credibility. Language centers and skills classes for adults tend to pair blue with a standout accent such as red or orange, so they feel both trustworthy and memorable.

Pharmacies often choose green (the color of the green cross, a familiar sign of a drugstore), while hospitals and clinics often choose blue for its sense of trust and seriousness. Dental, aesthetic and mother-and-baby clinics often add jade green, soft pink or ivory white for a gentler feel, while traditional medicine often uses moss green, earth brown and pale yellow to evoke plants and tradition.

E-wallets and fintech companies (financial services that run on the phone) usually choose fresher colors like purple, pink and orange to look young and approachable, while red combined with gold is tied to banks and securities firms that want to feel strong and familiar to Vietnamese eyes.

Architecture and interiors

Architecture and interior firms in Vietnam often use black, white, grey and wood tones, because these colors are neutral, don't compete with project photography, and give homeowners a sense of solidity and restraint. High-end and villa design studios usually choose black or navy with bronze gold for a refined look. Warm, cozy residential interiors favor wood brown, beige and cream to feel approachable. Construction and building firms lean toward deep blue or orange, since these two colors suggest stability and reliability. Many firms end up looking alike, so the room to stand out lies in how you combine colors and keep them consistent, not in picking an unusual color.

Deep blue feels solid and trustworthy, suited to family car dealerships and used vehicle sellers who need to keep customers' trust. Black and silver (a bright metallic tone) are common in service workshops, parts suppliers and luxury cars, because they suggest technical skill and precision, while yellow or orange is often added to repair shop signs so they are easy to see from a distance.

Red and orange are common in oil and gas because they are easy to spot from far away on gas station signs. The solar and green energy segment often picks green and yellow, but nearly every company does the same, so customers struggle to tell them apart, and many only show a leaf rather than real capability.

Industrial manufacturing

Factories in Vietnam often use deep blue (the color of reliability and keeping to deadlines) and red or orange (the colors of fire, machinery and weight), because a buyer sitting far away needs to see right away that this factory is serious and run professionally. Mechanical, metal and electrical businesses tend toward blue, steel gray and red. Plastics, packaging and food businesses often use green or orange to suggest cleanliness and safety. Because everyone chooses this way, factories look alike when placed side by side on paper, and where you can stand apart is in using color consistently and deliberately, not necessarily in changing the colors.

Film and creative advertising studios tend to favour black with one vivid accent to look professional. News outlets are associated with red in mastheads and big headlines, while corporate communications and PR consultancies for large companies often use blue and navy (a deep blue that is almost black) because they feel trustworthy. As a result many look alike, and choosing a less common colour, such as moss green or earthy pink, helps a brand be remembered.

Law and audit firms often add bronze gold or burgundy (a reddish brown) for a sense of authority and heritage. HR and consulting firms tend to choose green, teal or orange to look more approachable and easier to talk to.

Apartment and large urban development brands often pair navy with gold for a sense of durability, while villa and high-end resort brands lean toward bronze gold, black or deep moss green for an upscale feel. Townhouse, land plot and small brokerage brands usually use red, orange or green to stand out on advertising boards, but that also makes them look alike and hard to remember.

Supermarkets and convenience stores often add green or blue to feel fresh, clean and trustworthy, while mother and baby stores and cosmetics shops tend to choose pink and light purple to feel approachable. Since everyone uses red and yellow, customers struggle to remember which store is which, so a distinct and consistent color is where you can stand apart.

Digital finance and management software often use deep blue or teal to look solid, while consumer apps, online education and e-commerce tend to add orange or purple for a younger, more energetic feel. Because everyone picks something similar, customers struggle to remember any of them. This is exactly where you can be different and still keep your credibility.

What people often ask

Which colors suit my industry?

A brand color set usually has one main color, two supporting colors and one accent. The tool suggests a set from your industry, the colors you like, and your element by birth year or founding date if you wish, with color codes for print and for the web.

Whose birth year should I use?

Usually the owner's. When a business has several owners, people often use the founding date instead. The tool works with the lunar year: a date before Lunar New Year belongs to the previous lunar year.

How are the element colors decided?

By the Nạp Âm system of the five elements, the common way in Vietnam to read an element from a birth year. Suitable colors are those of your own element and of the element that feeds it; colors to avoid are those of the element that overcomes it. This is folk belief, offered for reference, not a design rule.

Why does the suggestion differ from the color I typed?

If you enter a color, the tool keeps that exact code as the main color. Only in industries where brands tend to stand apart from the familiar colors, when your color falls right in that familiar range, the tool suggests the neighbouring hue and says why. Dragging on the color pad changes the color as you move it.

Can I use these color codes for printing?

HEX codes, the six-character color codes used on screens, are for screens only. The CMYK codes here (the four printing inks: cyan, magenta, yellow, black) are only a rough idea, not codes to print with. That is because the tool converts HEX to CMYK directly, not through the conversion table of a specific printer and paper. Give your printer the HEX code so they know the color you want, then ask for a proof on the actual paper. The main color is best fixed with a special mixed ink (a Pantone color, the standard color reference printers share).

Is the birth date I enter sent anywhere?

No. The element is worked out in your own browser. Only when you choose to send the palette to Sinh Vũ are the color codes sent along; the date is not.
