A paper bag is the cheapest and most easily spread brand touchpoint, but choosing the wrong weight or handle style can lead to torn handles, blown bottoms, or faded prints.
A paper bag is an outer packaging made from kraft paper or coated couche paper, used for gift wrapping, branded shopping bags, or as outer packaging for product combos. This is a moderately priced brand identity solution, suitable for retail, fashion, and mainstream corporate gifts. Paper bags are not moisture-resistant, oil-resistant, and cannot be sealed, so they cannot replace composite bags when preservation is needed.
A customer carrying a branded paper bag down the street is a mobile advertisement that incurs no additional media costs. However, if the wrong paper weight, handle style, or purpose of the paper bag is chosen, the result could be a torn handle in the street, faded print colors that obscure the brand, or food leaking through the bottom of the bag. This page helps you understand what type of bag you need and what information to provide so that Sinh Vũ can create the correct file for the printer.
A paper bag is an outer packaging made from paper, used to hold products, create branded shopping bags, or as outer packaging for gift combos. It is identified by three structural factors.
First is the bottom type. A square self-standing bottom (SOS, short for "self-opening sack") allows the bag to stand on its own when placed on a table, convenient for takeout food or display bags. A pinch bottom is flatter and neater, commonly found in gift bags and fashion bags.
Second is the handle type. Twisted handle made from paper can bear the heaviest load in the group, suitable for groceries and food. Flat handle is a flat strip of paper glued to the bag body, more economical, suitable for light to medium items. Die-cut handle has no separate handle, is the most compact but has the least load capacity.
The third factor is the paper weight, measured in grams per square meter (GSM). According to reference frameworks from suppliers, lightweight bags use about 60 to 80 GSM, medium bags 70 to 90 GSM, large bags with handles require about 100 to 120 GSM, while premium tote bags (euro tote) are 200 GSM or higher. The higher the GSM, the thicker the paper, which retains shape and supports weight better. This is a reference framework from foreign suppliers, not a strict standard from Sinh Vũ.
Regarding surface materials: brown kraft gives a rustic handcrafted feel, but a dark background can distort the printed colors, making it difficult to reproduce bright colors. Coated paper (surface-coated paper) prints colors more accurately and responds well to finishing techniques like foil stamping, embossing, and spot UV.
A paper bag is suitable when you need a branded outer layer, not a preservation solution. The most reasonable cases include:
Cases where paper bags are not the right choice:
Paper bags fall into the low to mid-range segment of paper packaging, but actual costs vary greatly depending on three factors: paper quality and weight, printing method, and level of finishing.
Regarding printing methods: offset printing is economical for large runs due to the initial setup costs. Small runs typically use digital printing, which has a higher cost per piece but does not require a plate. Premium finishing such as foil stamping, embossing, and die-cutting requires specific molds and plates, adding time and setup costs.
Regarding time: there is no specific verification number for the Vietnamese market, so Sinh Vũ does not provide a fixed weekly timeline. Qualitatively: small batches printed digitally are faster, while large batches printed offset or with complex processing take more time. You should plan early if there is a hard event deadline.
Sinh Vũ takes on the role of creative director: designing the structure of bags, surface graphics, and exporting files that meet print standards. Sinh Vũ does not commit to printing prices as printing quotes depend on the printer you choose and the specific production batch.

Brown Kraft gives a handcrafted, rustic feel, but the dark base causes print colors to appear darker, making it difficult to reproduce bright or pastel colors. White coated paper prints colors more accurately and is better suited for foil stamping, embossing, and UV coating. Choose Kraft when the brand desires a raw look, and choose coated paper when sharp print colors or premium finishing is needed.
The handle and base are the two main load-bearing points. Using paper that is too thin compared to the actual load can cause the handle to tear or the base to break, especially when the paper gets damp. Sinh Vũ will advise on the appropriate paper weight based on the size and expected load before sending the file to the printer.
Partially acceptable: dry cake bags and oil-free snacks are acceptable, but if food comes into direct contact with paper, the material must meet food contact standards. For oily or wet foods, paper bags are not sufficient and require a separate oil-resistant coating or a switch to another material.
