Standardizing 300 dpi for all sizes not only makes files unnecessarily large but also does not ensure quality where it is needed.
Basic principle: design in the correct actual size with real units right in the software from the start. If the banner is 3x6m, open the file at 3x6m, not at 30x60cm and scale it up. Following this step allows you to see the actual proportions on the design screen and identify issues before incurring printing costs.
Screens display colors in the RGB system. Printers use the CMYK system (cyan, magenta, yellow, black). These two systems have different color ranges and cannot be automatically converted without losing information. Furthermore, large format printing is influenced by the type of substrate, ink, and lighting conditions on-site. Therefore, adjusting colors on the screen to your liking and sending the file directly to the printer is a sure way to lead to color discrepancies. This error cannot be corrected after printing.
Color drift is a process issue, not a software issue. It needs to be addressed at three points.
Looking closely and looking far: two situations, two different priorities
Close-up items (standee, photo backdrop, POSM within reach): Resolution needs to be higher, check proportions more carefully as viewers are close enough to see pixelation and small details. Color checking on actual prints is mandatory.
Long-distance items (large signs, building banners): Accept lower resolution for lighter files, but still maintain the correct overall proportions and check colors before running a batch due to typically large print quantities and high reprint costs.
Brand colors only have identification value when they are consistent: on screens, in small print materials, and on large signs. This consistency does not happen naturally; it comes from the correct color profile and approved print samples.
